Time to get this started!
A quick outline on how I will mostly be posting things:
Actions and descriptions will be displayed in italics like this
(Things I want to say out of character will be in parentheses)
"Things that characters say will be in quotations"
Attacks and dice rolls will be normal like this
Power Names will be bold
You are not required to post this way, so long as I understand what you are doing.
___
***This game is still open to 1 Player***
However, I am only willing to bring on a player who has a post count of at least 30 posts, or new players who extensively communicate with me about your idea for a character to be introduced. As players add on I will edit this to announce the amount of available PC slots.
___
Keep track of your expendatures (trail rations, water, money, arrows, etc...). I want this game to have an enhanced element of realism. For the time being I am choosing to be trustworthy that you will do this on your own and do so honestly. Same goes with dice rolls. I believe that a bad roll at an inopportune time can enhance the story from time to time.
If you have any questions PM me or post in in the Q&A thread.
Let's begin!
___
It has been some weeks since the disappearance of King Kalak, and Tithian has taken his vacated seat as ruler of Tyr. It is a strange place now, but many would think for the better.
Some chain of events has brought you to the Merchants Quarters, drawn to a building with the insignia of three dragonflies. This is House Shom, from Nibenay. To the southeast is Kalak's unfinished Ziggurat. Numerous representatives have been handing out parchements explaining their need for adventurers willing to trek into the harsh wastes to discover treasure. Some have just heard by word of mouth. Others arrived here out of dumb luck in search of a job.
A handfull of different characters litter the area, each possibly seeking to land a contract. They are lined up at a desk inside with a human in decadent clothing doing paperwork. A few street urchins are turned down with him mentioning that they wouldn't last 20 feet outside the walls of Tyr. However, a large battlescared Mul brings a light to his eye. The human tells him to take a seat on a far wall and await instructions.

[Now is your chance to introduce yourselves, if you like]

Self-sufficiency is the name of the game but Dent was quickly become wary of not having a traveling companion around for aid. Word around the market was someone with a lot of money was looking for people who knew how to get more.
"Sounds fun," thought Dent.
Pilfering a spiny desert fruit as he darts through the market towards the recruitment area Dent soon finds himself inside a large room, everyone much taller but with spirits less hardened. One of those mixed-dwarves just moved to what appears to be the important side of the room. Dent moves in his direction and stops a few feet from him.
"This the bench reserved for those who know what they're doing?"

The Mul looks down from a face full of scars. He bears a brand that distinguishes him as once a slave.
"Don't know. Doing as I was told. The man at the desk told me to come here and wait"

Dent gives a slight smirk.
"Then I shall wait and see if he has my answer. What do they call you Mul?"

A feminine snigger is heard behind the two. "Rikus? It is the great Hero of Tyr, Rikus, come to lead us on a great quest!"
Turning, you see a stunning sight: A Tiefling, one of those odd abberations rumored to be descendants of Sorcerer-Kings. This one is female, dressed in fine traveling clothes, and absolutely gorgeous.

"Ah, another rump for our deadly bench. Take my seat girl, keep it warm."
Dent hops from bench and disappears into the crowd waiting on the man giving orders. He wants to find out exactly what is at stake here.

Rikus looks up to the gorgeous woman standing before him and seems as though he is beginning to salavate
"Uh.. No. Coincidince. I fought him once in the arena."
He points to a nasty scar along along his abdomen. It is several inches long from what you can see, and then disappears underneath his chitinous armor.
"I think you need to talk to the man at the desk before sitting here"
___
Dent overhears the man at the desk mention recovering a lost caravan and finding a rumored Face in the Stone. Some upfront money will be provided for provisions, and a much better reward upon returning.

Dent makes his way towards the desk. Taking his dagger from his armband he stabs it down on the desk.
"Look no further sir! I see you've already met my partner over there." Dent points towards Rikus "Don't waste all that gold sending out this rabble. We've travelled all over this desert from time to time and finding a caravan is such an easy task. Why not take your gold and put it all behind the best you have?"
Bluff Check: 16 + 8 = 24

The man stares down at the dagger, and then at Dent - giving him a good looking over after hearing his interjection. He then dismisses the human in front of the desk and gives you his full attention
"Fascinating! You have certainly got drive! You do indeed seem like a Halfling who has had his share of desert wanderings. The only problem with your story is your inclusion of Rikus over there. He's never left Tyr. He was born here, and raised to fight in the Arena. I think he's just finally realized he's allowed to leave if he wants, so he's come to me looking for work."
He shuffles some papers on his desk, and writes a few things down and then slides the paper and pen to Dent
"Please, make your mark here Mr...?"

[LOL, this is exactly how I saw this going.]
"Ah! But a great story anyways!"
Dent takes his dagger out of the desk and pricks his thumb and presses it down on the X.
"My name is Dent. I'll be over at your deadly bench."
Dent arrives back at the bench.
"I hope you fight better then you travel Rikus." Turns to the teifling. "Your turn lass. Go earn your seat."

[Yeah. We'll say that the psion decided it best if while Hargan adventured, she'd stay back in Tyr and keep him apprised of the happenings via Sending.]

You all see a small, dark-haired man walk into the bar, and look around casually, and notice that his eyes lock on the tiefling for a moment, before continuing.

[For the record, this is the headquarters of the Tyrian branch of House Shom. Far from a bar]
The man at the desk sees the newcomer, and seeing as things have slowed down he greets him
"Welcome, young man! Have you come seeking adventure? Do you think you have what it takes to survive in the desert in attempts to find long lost treasure? Please come and tell me a little about yourself! Where do your skills lie?"

[Meh. It's Tyr, and I'm a rogue-type. Anywhere and everywhere can be a bar. haha. I misread somewhere or confused myself. Dunno which.]
Bluff - 1d20 (14) + 8 = 22

[No way! Halflings are notoriously outspoken. And no worries on the mistake]
"Ahh, yes yes! You see, we - being Merchant House Shom- have lost a caravan that was in search of ruins that contains a number of artifacts that we feel would be useful. We believe they were attacked by raiders who have a mobile fortress of sorts roaming the wastes. If you could firstly find the runs, which we have been referring to as The Face in the Stone, and secondly, find our missing caravan and bring back any survivors, you would be greatly compensated for your deeds. Also, any treasures you find that are of no use to us may be kept and divided amongst your party."
He points in the direction of the seated Mul and Halfling
"Of course, we will pay an up-front amount to cover provisions. Are you interested?"
