Trianna de Zaphrias, young heiress of the Zaphrias "mercantile" estates in Tyr, is the daughter of Marcus de Zaphrias, "Master Merchant." Behind the veil of the public eye, Marcus is a moneylender, and a damn good one, at that. He has the money to offer virtually any amount of coin, but if you don't pay on time, you must pay a hefty percentage in interest. Marcus preys on the weak, stupid, helpless, and hapless, and drains their pockets of everything, even their lint. Once, when Trianna was ten, she asked to borrow just a little money, that she could pay for a new doll at the market, and he agreed, telling her she had 1 week to earn it back. 3 weeks later, she owed her father over 300gp, which he worked out of her for several years.
Due to this treatment, and his behavior, Trianna has no particular love for her parents, or people in general. The only benefit of her noble upbringing is that she was able to obtain a proper education in how to use her psionic abilities. Eventually, when she turned 20, she stole money from her father's coffers, and called upon a man she knew of from his dealings with her father, Hargan the Umbra-Blade. She gave Hargan the money, and asked him to kill her father and help her out of the house. He turned down the money, saying to her "You have potential. But, I will not take your pilfered money for your father's life. Give that money back to it's owner, and that owner will soon die, that you may be free."
So Trianna did just that. She walked directly into her father's meeting room, Hargan at her side, and handed her father the money she had stolen, and said "This money has the blood of countless people on it. And now it will have yours." And as she said that, Hargan mysteriously appeared behind her father, with a bone-bladed longsword in hand, and drove it through the startled man's throat and spine.
From that day on, Trianna walked out of her father's house, and made her own living, doing what she could with her psionic abilities to make coin legitimately.
